“In 2001, I discovered an amazing product that looked exactly like real coral stone. It was a high density resin that was super durable and I could not tell the difference between the real stone and this resin product. Our company started using this resin stone to build products for high-end homes. First, we designed fireplace mantles and surrounds with huge creating wine rooms for many years at this point and discovered that this hi-density resin works great as an insulation on the walls of the wine rooms, and creates a great cellar look when the coral stone panels were staggered like large castle blocks. It became an instant success with my builders and clients, therefore, I was doing a resin coral stone wine room in every high-end home we furnished with cabinets.
Next we started designing beautiful range hoods, which turned out to be my most popular resin stone product. My installers became skilled craftsman at working with resin, so we could design virtually any style hood and they could build it. We created several faux finishes and our resin business was in full swing with wine rooms, mantles, and custom hoods.
At this point, we have been in the outdoor kitchen business for about ten years, and have created some of the most impressive outdoor areas in the country. We were using 2″ thick “sink cypress” with the bark still on to make unique outdoor bar tops. One outdoor design has a ten foot aged cypress log cut in half to create columns to border a fireplace.
We started to do very large outdoor kitchens, including an outdoor kitchen at a nine million dollar home on the bay. We became the experts in the outdoor living areas on the Emerald Coast. The only problem was, our real cypress wood products–doors, panels, and trim–kept warping, fading, and basically falling apart. We used quality cypress wood and the best exterior varnish on the market. We worked with finish experts and tried every finish we could to preserve the wood in these very harsh conditions on the bays and on the Gulf of Mexico.
The customers that continued to oil or varnish their outdoor kitchens had better luck, but we found that the majority of them did not want to bother with the maintenance, so we started getting the calls to replace and refinish kitchens that were not maintained. We continued for the next few years replacing cabinet doors, and any base or toe kick that touched the floor. The wood was like a sponge, absorbing water that was destroying the cypress. Water was not the only problem, insects proved to be another issue. In one case, carpenter bees were boring holes in the doors! I pride myself on installing products that last, so I felt like we were selling an inferior product when what we are known for is quality. Our craftsmanship and design are always at the highest standard, but we were fighting Mother Nature, and losing the battle.
Now with history and a proven product, NatureKast® is introducing one of the most innovative outdoor product catalogs in the world. We have the most experienced resin craftsman in the country that are producing out an extremely high quality product that is designed to last forever.
With our resin products doing so well, we created a cypress door made from solid resin to see if it would be a feasible replacement for the real cypress wood, because I knew the resin was a closed cell product and was 100 percent waterproof. It has been used in exterior commercial applications for over 30 years, so I knew there was a way we could make it work in outdoor kitchens. We designed the door to be 1″ thick and increased the density of the resin to make it harder and heavier than our other resin products. After about six months of resin and manufacturing tests, the first NatureKast® door was created. The day I saw it, I knew this would be the future of outdoor cabinets. That was over four years ago, and the very first NatureKast® kitchen cabinets we installed look exactly the same as the day we installed them. No fading, warping, cracking, weathering of any type and with virtually no maintenance. We have cabinets installed on the roof top balconies of homes on the Gulf of Mexico in full exposure to the salt air and sun that have not been effected at all by the elements.
I am proud to say, NatureKast® has now revolutionized the outdoor kitchen market, and we will continue to be the fore runner in the hi-density resin product industry.”
